A tiny glimpse of last weekend’s Wild Human Parent-Child Ardennes trip. A three-day wilderness adventure in the Belgian Ardennes, full of adventure, tracking, and survival skills.
Over the weekend, we covered a variety of skills together—from braving the elements through outdoor cooking, foraging, and building fires, to finding our way by navigating and orienting ourselves in the Ardennes forests.
To round out their survival skills, the parents and children learned how to work together as a true team using coordinates, a map, and a compass, and how to measure distances precisely to determine the correct course.
In addition, the focus was on the finer points of camping! From camping under a tarp and tying functional knots (such as the clove hitch and slipknot) to building a makeshift shelter. To round out the experience, we went over the essential survival kit and taught the teams what to look out for when preparing for their own trip.
