The Trip

The Alps, notorious and famous for summer hut-to-hut hikes and winter ski tourism. But if you look closely, you’ll find something else as well. Because if you go in the fall, the crowds give way to an undisturbed atmosphere of tranquility. For some, it’s “off-season”; for others, “the season.” Far from civilization, we set out on a journey through a landscape in transition. Through vibrantly colored forests of red and gold, teeming with mushrooms, along crunchy paths covered in leaves, toward the first snow. The mountains are preparing for winter, nature is doing its thing, and together we fully immerse ourselves in the season and the serene atmosphere of fall. After all, where better to experience that than in the wilderness?

As we wander from one unmanned hut to the next, we pause to take in what we see: animal tracks, changing vegetation, and the first signs of the approaching winter. We follow ridges above the tree line, make the first tracks in a fresh blanket of snow, and climb to peaks over rocky terrain, taking in a panoramic sunset view of the alpenglow. In the evening, we round out the experience with a campfire and a sky adorned with a brilliant starry canopy. So, do you love the seasons as much as we do? Then you’re invited to an autumn trip like no other. Do you usually skip fall as a mountain season? There’s no need to. Come along and you’ll see for yourself.

Wild Alps

Theme and levels

Wild Skills ” is the theme of this group trip. These trips are for people who want to learn more about wilderness skills. Previous experience is a plus, but certainly not required. However, it’s advisable to be in good physical condition: long treks through potentially wintry conditions can make the journey physically challenging. There may already be a significant amount of snow on the ground. During the trek, expect to carry a well-packed, heavy 60-liter backpack; in addition to your personal gear, you’ll be carrying some safety equipment and group provisions on the first day. Furthermore, a flexible and adventurous attitude is essential for this trip. Experience with (wild) winter camping or the Wild Human trip is a plus, but not required.

Portrait Arno

Arno

On paper a Dutchman, but has lived for years in the French Haute Savoie. As an "accompagnateur en montagnes," he takes you off the beaten track and into nature on mountain boots, snowshoes and mountain bike. Arno believes in the magic of a night in the mountains; from a self-built igloo to a bivi on a summit and from a private mountain hut to a hammock in the forest.
