The Trip
Travel with us to the sultanate of Oman. A land of mystery and hidden beauty. Together we will embark on an unprecedented adventure amidst the pristine Hajar Mountains. A travel experience you won’t find anywhere else. For a week, we will go back in time and enter another world. A serene world of lush wadis and rugged mountains. With a unique and ancient cultural history where semi-nomadic lifestyles still survive and mountain peoples traditionally live in harmony with the mountainous desert.
Together with these local Hajar people, their donkeys and our Omani guide friends, we traverse the majestic mountain landscape of this area. Our daily rhythm soon synchronizes with the simple but enriching life of the nomads in the mountains. We rise with the morning sun and continue our trek along winding shepherd’s paths to enjoy golden sunsets at the end of the day. Along the way, we will hardly see a soul other than wild donkeys and intrepid mountain goats. Each night we will camp in the wild or spend the night around the shepherds’ home-built encampments, where we will fall asleep under a crystal-clear starry sky. Water we drink from ancient reservoirs and food we eat from local Omani cuisine. And that won’t disappoint.
After a week spent outside feral and marveling, we return to civilization satisfied and enriched with impressions and perspectives.

Theme and levels
The theme of this trip is Wild Roots: a trip to a place where nature and culture are inseparable. This trip takes place in the Hajar Mountains away from civilization. Amenities are not always nearby during this trip. A good basic condition and experience with hiking in mountainous terrain is desirable for the trip. We will do treks of 5-8 hours per day. Experience with (wild) camping, Wild Human trip is a plus, but not necessary.

Travel Program
Day 1 to 2
Travel Days
After an overnight flight, we arrive in Muscat, the capital of Oman, in the morning. After a transfer towards the mountains, we stay one night in Bait Bimah and discover a beautiful traditional village, before traveling on to the starting point for our trek through Hajar Mountains.
Day 3 through 8
On mountain tour
A week long trek across the Hajar mountains. Self-sufficient with our own tented camp and as a team accompanied by local shepherds, mules and guide, we trek through the mountains, walking between 10 and 20 km daily with the necessary altimeters (5-8 hours). We camp in the wild, sleep with local mountain people in encampments and feast on local Omani mountain cuisine. Along the way, we conquer the peaks of the Arabian Peninsula. The mules carry our food and basecamp, allowing us to lightly pack and maneuver our day trips.
Day 9
Travel Day
After our last trip, we travel back to Muscat. From the hinterland back to civilization and back to Holland.
