Wild Scotland with Paulien from Outdoor Inspiration
The Trip
Deep in the Scottish Highlands, hidden between sea, mountains and endless valleys, lies the remote peninsula of Knoydart. Accessible only by boat or on foot and completely devoid of roads, this area constitutes one of the last true wildernesses of Europe. From Fort William, we travel by train and ferry to Inverie, where our adventure begins.
With full packs we trek into the mountains, past deserted glens, rugged mountain passes and quiet lochs. We wild camp in remote places, learn to live to the rhythm of the landscape and experience the raw beauty of Scottish nature. Along the way, we’ll traverse the heart of Knoydart and climb Ladhar Bheinn, one of the country’s most impressive Munros.
After days of hiking, simplicity and living together in the wilderness, we return to Inverie, where we conclude the trek with a final meal together before traveling back to civilization.

We’ll hike 15–20 km daily with our backpacks and tackle some extra elevation gain on our way to a summit. Experience with (wild) camping or the Wild Human trip is a plus, but not required.

Travel Program
Day 1
Travel Day
Today we travel to the Scottish Highlands, with Fort William as our final destination. In Fort William we spend the night and get ready for the trip ahead. During a joint briefing we check the equipment, distribute the material and go over the program. In the evening we cook together and get to know each other.
Day 2 through 6
Wild Journey
After an early start, we travel by train to Mallaig and ferry to the remote village of Inverie, accessible only by boat or on foot. Here begins our trek through Knoydart, one of the most pristine areas of Scotland. Along the way, we learn the basics of wild camping, filtering water and living in the rhythm of the landscape. Each day, each new trail, takes us through ancient forests and immense valleys with breathtaking views. We climb one of Scotland’s most inspiring mountains: the Ladhar Bheinn, with unparalleled views when weather permits. At the end of each day, we find a new place to set up camp, our home base for the night. Through a final day of hiking, we return to Inverie, where we conclude our trip with a shared meal and a final evening at the edge of the wilderness. The next day we sail back to Mallaig and travel on to Fort William and home – with tired legs and a head full of memories of one of Europe’s most remote areas.
Day 7
Travel Day
Time to return home, refreshed and feeling reset.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you have questions about our trips, practicalities or our story? In these frequently asked questions, you’ll find the answers quickly and easily.
Can I cancel or change my booking?
Yes, cancellation is possible according to our terms and conditions: up to 8 weeks before departure you pay only the deposit, after that increasing costs apply up to 100% just before departure.
Can I join even if I have never hiked in the mountains before? Or have a fear of heights?
Yes! You don’t have to be an experienced hiker to join us. The trail is challenging, but we walk at a leisurely pace and adjust the program as needed. Fear of heights is not a problem: most routes are safe and you don’t have to climb steep cliffs. The most important thing is curiosity and sense of adventure – the rest we will learn together along the way.
Is it possible to travel to Fort William without a plane?
Yes, that is certainly possible. You can travel by train or boat from the Netherlands to Glasgow and from there continue by train or bus to Fort William. For example, it is quite doable to travel by train from Amsterdam to Glasgow in one day. There is also a boat connection where you leave at the end of the afternoon and arrive in the morning, after which you can travel to Fort William the same day.
In April you will receive an extensive guide from Paulien with various travel options and practical tips.
Are there any hidden fees or service charges?
No, there are no hidden costs. All unavoidable additional costs are clearly stated in advance in the travel price.
Do you also rent equipment or materials?
Yes, some of the required equipment is available for rent on our trips. We offer these rental options during the booking process. There you can see exactly what gear is available and add it directly to your booking. That way you don’t have to arrange this separately in advance.
What payment methods do you accept?
You can pay with us easily and safely via iDEAL and Bancontact. It is also possible to pay by bank transfer. All payments go through our secure booking system Bookinglayer.
