First aid in the wilderness with Paulien from Outdoor Inspiration
The Training
A two-day practical Wilderness First Aid training course that is all about being safe and more self-reliant on the road, further from civilization. For anyone who wants to make their own (solo) trip in unspoiled nature. After this course weekend with a lot of practice you will have a better idea of the risks and dangers when you are on the road, what actions you can take to prevent accidents and how you can act if something does happen. In other words: go on an adventure with more confidence and less worries.
On day one you attend an official Wilderness First Aid course under the guidance of experienced doctors from Outdoor Medicine and a guide from Rewild. You will learn how to give yourself and other hikers the best first aid possible, with a focus on situations where emergency services are not always readily available. Think about recognizing and treating blisters, infections, hypothermia or diarrhea, as well as what to do in case of cuts, falls or bites. You will find out which first aid materials are really essential in your backpack and how to use them. All with a focus on how to save yourself when you are alone or in a small group. Upon completion you will receive an internationally recognized Wilderness First Aid certificate that is valid for three years.
Day two is all about increased safety and self-reliance on the trails. We will work on skills such as map reading, compass use and coordinate determination. But also things like preparation and risk assessment. You will learn how to purify water, what safety equipment is of value and what is needed for an evacuation. Practical safety tools for the road, communication tools if you are out of range and an evacuation by GPS emergency button are also covered. We combine knowledge with lots of doing, so you not only understand skills, but also practice and apply them.
