Bush Expedition Maasai Kenya

The Trip
During the Bush Expedition Maasai Kenya, travel with us to a unique place in East Africa away from modern civilization and follow in the footsteps of a Maasai warrior in the African wilderness. ‘Back to basics’ we go on a multi-day trek on foot through the savannah, where we camp in the wild. Comfortable facilities are absent, but adventure is therefore all the more guaranteed. While trekking around, we get to know local tribes, their traditions and ancient wisdom. Experience how the Maasai today still live in harmony with nature in the savanna.
The Maasai warriors and nature guides will teach you everything you need to (over)live in a natural environment. They will take you into the world of edible and medicinal plants, wildlife tracking and navigation by natural means. But you will also learn practical skills such as spear throwing, arrow and archery, creating your own sleeping mattress, fire making and outdoor cooking. Because before we set off into the bush we’ll stay at Loita Hills Basecamp where you’ll receive Maasai warrior training. And that is much needed because a lot of wild animals live in this area. Along the way we will learn all kinds of things about these animals.
We do the multi-day expedition together as a family with the Maasai elders and warriors. We make camp in a different beautiful place each day, living the nomadic Maasai life and learning more about this culture around a crackling campfire.

Theme and levels
The theme of this trip is Wild Roots: a trip to a place where nature and culture are inseparable. In addition, you will learn more about the Maasai culture during this trip. We want to give you a pure Maasai experience and therefore we will go deep into the savannah. Although this means that physical activity is not the central theme during these days, a good basic condition and experience with hiking over hilly terrain is a requirement during this trip. In fact, in addition to the workshops and activities, we will hike daily stretches through nature with a backpack. Because Kenya is situated around the equator the temperature can be high and you should not underestimate the UV power. You should also take into account the possible heavy rainfall. Experience with (wild) camping or Wild Human is a plus but not necessary.

Impact of this trip
This trip is not just an extraordinarily special experience. This is a trip with a message and a sustainable purpose. In doing so, we create positive impact and awareness for nature and the people on the ground. With this trip you will appreciate the traditions, culture, indigenous knowledge and lifestyle of the Maasai in harmony with nature. A way of life that is under enormous pressure. Thus we contribute to the preservation of this heritage and a better economic perspective for the Maasai. Rewild contributes part of the trip price to the Back to Nature Foundation. On the fourth expedition day, the trek back to base camp from the Loita Hills goes through a beautiful stretch of savannah. We arrive at camp in the late afternoon.
