The Trip

Also fallen in love with bouldering? Then it’s time for the real thing: climbing sandstone rocks in the fairytale forest of Fontainebleau. Famous and infamous by climbers all over the world. Get your teeth into it, because we’re taking you on a weekend of the best of Bleau. We will guide you through the climbing areas (including lesser known ones) and solemnly promise to take you to the most fun projects. Whether you are a seasoned outdoor climber or a beginner wanting to give outdoor bouldering a try, there is something for everyone. And that’s just 6 hours away.

Packed with crash pads, climbing shoes, puff, topos and good company, we will create a basecamp among the boulders and help you navigate the rocks. We teach you to find your way through the magical forest and how to get unprecedented grip on tiny edges of sandstone. As well as the intricacies of spotting, the do’s and don’ts in the area and how to treat nature sustainably. We arrange, you boulder!

Climber getting help with bouldering problem

Theme and levels

The theme of this trip is Wild Fitness. This means that physical activity, bouldering, is the focus during these days. We will hike packed with crash pads to the areas and we will spend long days in the forest. Your bouldering level is not that important.

Meanwhile, we’ll teach you all about:
– Outdoor climbing skills basics
– Crashpad positioning
– Spotting (the art of making sure the climber lands safely on the crashpad)
– ‘reading up’ on the rock
– Navigating and orienting with the topos
– Recognizing boulders and circuits
– The history of the forest
– Handling the rock and the area sustainably

Day 1

Travel Day

On Thursday we will arrive in Fontainebleau on our own time. We will travel individually or carpool with each other. We will make camp, recover from the trip and take in the atmosphere of this fairytale forest. With the early birds, we may touch some rocks today.

Day 2

Forest, boulders and outdoor games

All set and ready for a day on the Fontainebleau rocks? Climbing shoes? Check! Puff bag? Check! Crash pads? Check! Today is all about getting to know the French forest and the boulders. After a day of boulders, outdoor games, French baguettes and percolator coffee, we settle down at the nature campsite in the evening, satisfied and excited. With a tiny bit of soured forearms, we’ll get cooking, hopefully while enjoying a campfire.

Day 3

Allez!

This will be your day. The fingertips have recovered somewhat and with yesterday’s first experience we set off again for another area of the magical Fôret de Fontainebleau. We feel more comfortable hanging above the crashpad and get to work. Do you go for lots of boulder experience or bite into a project? The choice is yours. We’ll end the day with an evening stroll or enjoy the woods together at the campsite.

Day 4

À bientot Bleau!

Full of enthusiasm, after two full days of climbing, we squeeze the last bit of energy out of our muscles to get on top of that one more boulder. After a wonderful morning of climbing and a lunch in the forest, we say goodbye to this amazing forest and drive back home. And that one project, you come back for that again.
