Accursed Mountains Balkan Winter

The Trip
For those with superstitious tendencies, the prospect of touring the Dinaric Alps in the Balkans might cause some nervousness. Indeed, this part of the Alps is known as the Accursed Mountains, or cursed mountains. For a long time, travel in this region was impossible, but in recent decades the Balkans has undergone a transformation into an inviting place for wilderness travel with wild untouched landscapes.
In winter, the Accursed Mountains are untraveled, free of elevators and large-scale ski tourism. Here you will make your first tracks in a fresh pack of snow, cross paths with animals rather than other people, and experience authentic Balkan mountain life from the locals. With peaks above 2,500 meters, this area is quite snow-assured. A multi-day trek on snowshoes (and possibly crampons) through the Balkan hinterland leads us through the Dinaric Alps in the border region of Kosovo, Albania and Montenegro. We sleep in (un)manned huts in the mountain villages.

Theme and levels
The theme of this trip is Wild Fitness and a requirement is to be fit. Long travel through fresh snow and winter conditions can make conditions physically challenging. Experience in winter environments, walking with snowshoes and possibly crampons are nice to have but not required. Furthermore, a flexible and adventurous attitude is indispensable for this trip and important for a winter trip like this is additionally the right equipment.
