Hard, long, high and far, always up for adventure. This Finnish wilderness guide in particular you can wake up with a lot of noise for outdoor trips in Finland. Especially enjoys working with companies and teams in the wilderness under the motto: one learns by doing.

Portrait of Marie-Louise

Who am I?

I am Marie-Louise ter Horst, better known to Rewild as ML. I live in the center of Utrecht and am 32 years old. My hobbies are: being outdoors and exercising. I prefer to go on trips or do anything related to running or mountain biking. I also like to participate in adventure races. Preferably ultra races, combining mountain biking, running and kayaking. In daily life, I am both a guide at Rewild and an educational consultant (self-employed). In this I advise and support companies in creating training offerings for their employees.

If you had to draw a cartoon of yourself, what would it look like?

That would look something like this: whirlwind, hair messed up, running shoes on, bike in the background, smile on my face, 3 coats on and a hat on.

What drives you in guiding?

Nature gives me an enormous amount of energy. On the one hand I find peace and relaxation, on the other hand I am challenged to step out of my comfort zone. Every outdoor trip teaches me more about myself and I wish others the same experience. I like to teach others to be self-reliant and become comfortable in nature, so that they can eventually go on their own adventures.

Do you have a great anecdote or special wilderness experience worth sharing?

My canoe sat frozen in the ice once during a trip. We then had to pull the canoe across the ice to get to our final destination. A fat adventure, but I now check the river water level and weather forecast 3 times whenever I take another canoe trip.

Which wilderness destination is still on your bucket list and why?

Alaska!!! Because of its rugged and vast nature, this is high on my bucket list. There you really have to be able to save yourself, because you can’t call for help quickly. A great challenge it seems to me.

Join us on an adventure and experience it for yourself!
