Jordan camels & Bedouins
Travel Stories
The Middle East, a much-discussed region. But in the midst of all the tumult, still just as beautiful a region. Deep in southern Jordan near the border with Saudi Arabia, we immersed ourselves in perhaps the most insane desert landscape on earth. But not after we began our trip with a visit to the rock city of Petra to admire the 7,000-year-old trading city. A place where culture, history and nature come together. You will find the remains and influences of historical generations such as the Nabateans and the Ottomans. An extensive complex with ancient tombs, a historical treasury, theaters and a monastery carved out of the rock walls.

Marhaba Wadi Rum!

On foot, as a caravan together with the Bedouins and their camels, we traveled through the Wadi Rum desert towards Saudi Arabia. Also known as the “Valley of the Moon. Not just a nickname, because here you imagine yourself on another planet. A trek through deserted wadis with red and white sand dunes, between towering rocks over natural rock arches and through colorful canyons.

The caravan on the move.

Sharing life by the campfire as a big family. The Bedouins, young and old, proudly introduce us to their culture as they play music, dance and cook on the fire. The traditional lifestyle together in the wilderness, reminding us for a moment what life is all about.

For five days, the Bedouin showed us their culture and the best-kept secrets of the area.

Nick’s best Arabic. How do you guys like it?
Our cozy desert camp. No one else except our caravan and a million grains of sand!

“Enjoying the little things in life,” would be quite an understatement here anyway.

Again next year we will travel to this wonderful place. Something for you?
